A visit to Great Britain should include some historic tours and here is our best suggestion – all these authors have been featured on PBS TV.

Fiction into Reality

With Downton Abbey attracting huge viewing numbers on both sides of the pond, today's tour includes an on location visit to Highclere Castle and offers some imaginative close encounters with Jane Austen and Sherlock Holmes.

Why not form your own group for those like you have really enjoyed these spectacular costume dramas and bring them together as a tour that converts much loved fiction into reach out and touch it reality.


UK1Day 1 - Discovering Sherlock    

Arrive London Heathrow/Gatwick and head for the waterfront city of Portsmouth where as a scene setter, there’s a special tour of the ‘Study in Sherlock’, a permanent exhibition on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle at the City Museum and Art Gallery. Rest and relax prior to dinner and the chance for an early night.



Day 2 - Jane Austen in and around Winchester

Leaving Portsmouth, the Jane Austen story starts today at Steventon where she grew up and it continues at her former home at Chawton. Once in Winchester, you will take the Cathedral's Jane Austen Tour which also includes a viewing of the Library and the Winchester Bible. Staying on for Choral Evensong is a good way to finish the day.


Day 3 - On location at Downton Abbey

Leave Winchester for Bath breaking the journey in Salisbury for a visit to is spectacular cathedral where you will also see the finest preserved original Magna Carta. Before reaching Bath, spend an hour or two reliving the hugely popular TV series at Downton Abbey aka Highclere Castle.


UK3Day 4 - Jane Austen in Bath

This Jane Austen-themed day can include some notable specials including a scene setting visit to the Jane Austen Centre which will be followed by a look at the small but interesting Georgian Garden on the way up to No 1 Royal Crescent. Next up, you’ll visit the almost adjacent Museum . Prior Park Gardens


Day 5 - A 6000 year journey

After a leisurely start, to the beautiful and intimate 18th century landscape garden at Prior Park for some final and magnificent views of Bath. Then, via the medieval village of Lacock and the ancient standing stones at Avebury to London


Day 6 - London at leisure

We can leave you to your own devices if you wish but to finish off the day we could arrange an actor-led tour of the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, supper in Theatreland and an evening at the performance of your choice.


Optional Tours in London:

Private Guided experiences such as the Houses of Parliament, or preopening visit to the Tower of London to see the Crown Jewels without the crowds.  

Other themes for day tours could be for Harry Potter; William Shakespeare; Flower Shows like the Royal Orchid Society, Chelsea Flower Shows and Quilting or Needlework at Windsor Castle
